Denim Review: Citizens of Humanity Ava in Black Corduroy

I decided to review my Citizens of Humanity Ava straight leg jeans in Black Corduroy. My first premium denim purchase was actually a pair of Citizens of Humanity, so I’ll always have a soft spot for it.

The Ava cut is a straight leg style and has a 14″ leg opening. It fits like a straight leg and is not as closely cut to the calf like the Avedon Skinnies. The inseam is 34″ on these and they bunch slightly on my legs but are a great length for flats.

I haven’t owned any corduroy jeans in quite some time and one thing that drew me to these was the fabric. The corduroy is very small and close together. The fabric is really soft and almost looks like velvet. The fabric make up is 98% cotton and 2% spandex and not too thin, so these are great for cooler weather. These do stretch out quite a bit with wear. I got a size 30, which were a bit on the looser side, and I probably could’ve purchased a 29 because of the amount of stretch.

As for the detailing, the hardware is a dark coppery color, it doesn’t stand out against the black color too much. There are two main pockets and a small coin pocket in the front. The back pockets are larger and centered and they have the Citizens of Humanity “H” logo embroidered in black on the back, so it doesn’t stand out too much.

Overall, I think that the thicker fabric make these a great choice for cooler weather. These are one of the most comfortable pairs of pants I own and the fabric and cut make them look a bit dressier than jeans, and they’ve quickly become a staple of mine.
