5 Outfits for Summer Activities in LA

I’m very fortunate to live in a city with beautiful weather all year round, but there’s just something about the Summer that makes LA extra amazing. All the outdoor activities and events start to pop up and anything you do in the evening during the Summer is nothing short of magical. Since I am an LA native (and very proud) I thought I would share all the fun things to take advantage of in the Summer out here in LA, all while giving you denim outfit options to go with them.

LA, like most major cities, has tons of beautiful parks all throughout the city. One of the more infamous (and beautiful) parks is Griffith Park. This huge park allows you to find space without sharing someone else’s picnic and also has amazing views to go with it. For a nice picnic in LA, wearing a pair of on trend overalls (like these J Brand’s) will do the trick. It may be hot so pair them with a bandeau underneath, top it off with a hat and sunnies and you are keeping cool and protected from the sun. LA is very casual so Vans are the perfect fit for this outfit.

The Hollywood Bowl is literally my favorite thing to do in the Summer. The shows are always in the evening time, riding out into the sunset while you sit in the beautiful LA weather and listen to the music of your choice. I’m a huge jazz person, so that’s always my first choice, but they have a ton of different acts all Summer long so it won’t be hard to pick something you’re into. The best part? You can bring your own food and wine (just remember to bring your own cups, wine opener, and silverware).

Mozza2go used to offer a rad “Hollywood Bowl Package” which will be introduced when the season starts, it’s great if you’re too lazy or don’t have time to make your own food. The perfect outfit? I chose this cute denim dress from TopShop for a fun outfit to accompany the live music. I edged up the dress a little bit, but feel free to wear it with flats and a cute cardigan or a cropped sweater over the top. It tends to get a little chilly during those Summer nights so be sure to bring a jacket of some sort to keep you warm.

There are flea markets all over LA, but the jackpot has to be the Rose Bowl Flea Market. Every first Sunday of the month the Rose Bowl holds the biggest flea market known to man (or known to me), The Rose Bowl Flea Market. Tons of vintage finds, everything from clothes to furniture and yummy food as well as in the massive, Rose Bowl stadium (for more info go here). A flea market outfit is casual yet trendy or any type of style you happen to be feeling that day. I chose your classic white top and denim bottom, but with a modern twist: a crop top and these Ksubi cut offs. Be sure to bring a purse that won’t be bothersome as you shop the day away and of course, don’t forget comfortable shoes!

Summer in LA equals roof top pool parties and MFG ProductionsÔÇÿ Swimming with Sharks is at the top of my list. Go swimming, lay out, drink, eat and dance to rad tunes from some of the best DJ’s located at roof top pool at The Standard in Downtown. The pool is on the 7th floor and has amazing views of the city all while the sun sets right before your eyes. The Standard in Hollywood also offers a day time pool party on the weekends, a little more mellow, but also great.

I think everyone gets a little shocked at how little clothes everyone wears to Summer events in LA, but I will say it’s quite normal. As long as you have your bathing suit on with some sort of cover up, you’ll fit right in. This Kelly Wearstler chambray button up (or this J Crew one) is perfect for the Summer time heat and looks super cute unbuttoned over your bathing suit. A head scarf and some sunnies top off the look and you’re all set for a day at the pool in LA.

Last but not least, we have Karaoke in Koreatown. This is something you can do all year round, but if you’re on Summer vacation, you don’t have to wake up the next day. When you karaoke in Koreatown, you rent a private room by the hour shared with all of your friends while you drink the beverage of your choice and shout the lyrics of your favorite song in unison. It’s such a good time and I highly recommend you try it at least once.

Rosen Music Studio is often a fave, but we just tested out a new one, Max Karaoke Studio in the Little Tokyo mall which has now become my favorite. Max Karaoke Studio has THE BEST song selection (Frank Ocean, Hall and Oats, AaliyahÔǪI could go on), and it’s cheap. A suitable outfit for a night out on the town in LA would be a denim jacket to keep you warm, such as this Rag and Bone one, some comfy boots and a dress. LA is casual, but always stylish.

– If you’re making your way out to LA this Summer, be sure to hit up some of these joints because each one gives you a feel for the city. I mean, you already have an outfit now right? Enjoy your Summer everyone!
