What’s With the Wrap

Finding fresh ways to reinvent jeans is tough, as straying from the “standard” style can feel conceptual and unwearable. With the notable exceptions of brands like R13 and Y-Project who make more forward styles that still feel approachable, this is still a very tough nut to crack for most denim companies and designers.

One conceptual style that has gained some mainstream appeal is the wrap style. Once a a staple cut for R13 only, the wrap style has been adopted and reinterpreted by many mainstream labels, showing up in skirts and other slouchy cuts.

What do you think of this new trend? Would you give this new take on denim a try?

With many brands reworking vintage Levi’s left and right, these are a refreshing take on the term reconstructed. Being a brand that always goes against the grain, they opted to rework their vintage pair jeans inspired by one of their signature cuts, the X-Over.

The cross over is a vintage pair of jeans that fits in right with the grungy attitude of R13. They are kept with their generous cut and only adjusted to feature a wrap look at the fly.

’90s is the core of the A GOLD E style and with their take on the trend, they gave their ’90s Jeans’ cut a new spin.

These jeans are cut in the styles that you could imagine Monica Geller loving during the early years of Friends, with the exception of the wrap fly to kick it up a notch. They are a pair that’ll definitely give your baby tees and new attitude.

A GOLD E didn’t just stay with the jeans and also carried the detail over to their skirts.

The wrap skirt would have to be the most approachable take on the trend. It is easy to style and gives a cool new feel from the usual cutoff mini skirt.

A GOLD E also released this style in a washed black colorway to give us a nice break from the vintage blues and whites that have taken over this trend.

GRLFRND also went for the reconstructed approach with the trend. They opted to cut off the waistband of their style for a cleaner wrap and beach feel to the overall look. This giving them a smarter look from the grungy styles.

Derek Lam is a designer that usually takes on the smarter approach when it comes to his pieces. So when I spotted these, it was a nice surprise from the line.

The asymmetrical skirt has the grunge feel that the trend often gives off with its light wash and frayed hems. It’s a great addition to your closet, especially if you are a Derek Lam fan.
